Our innovative in-house treatment facility recycles sewage waste into a beneficial soil conditioner. The industrial scale in-vessel composting system was the first of its kind in the UK and is operated by our sister company Composting Facilities Services Ltd (CFS).
We use D:Max CDE mobile screening units to separate grit and rag from sewage sludge, enabling us to recycle 100% of the screened waste at the CFS plant.
The treatment plant is fully licensed by the Environment Agency and treats more than 17,000 tonnes of waste per year. This waste would otherwise have been destined for expensive and unsustainable landfill disposal.
CFS also recycles green waste generated by grounds maintenance contractors to the water industry, Network Rail and the Royal Parks.
Our in-house recycling sewage waste treatment facility played a key role in Southern Water’s achievement of zero waste to landfill.
The solid debris that ends up at Southern Water treatment works (such as wet wipes, cotton buds and sanitary items) was creating around 10,000 tonnes of landfill waste every year. This waste is now composted into soil conditioner at our CFS treatment plant.
We strive to reduce, re-use and recycle waste products wherever possible.
