Cleaning the sewage inlet at Derby Sewage Treatment Works

Originally built in 1904 and extended several times over the following century, Derby Sewage Treatment Works was completely re-built at the turn of this century. The fully commissioned plant opened in 2003, part of an improvement programme by Severn Trent Water.

The deep sewage inlet at Derby contains 14 submersible pumps and serves a population of 440,000. MTS undertook a thorough clean of the inlet including floating debris, pumps and penstocks in a one-day operation.
