Blocked Drains

Faulty and blocked outside drains can cause major problems, including flooding and pollution. We offer expert advice on the best and most cost effective solutions for you.

Blocked drains are unpleasant and can damage your health and property.
We locate blockages, damage, or faults in your outside drains and recommend the best solution. Using our CCTV units, our CCTV survey  can access even difficult manholes to inspect drains fully. Once we identify the issue, we’ll advise whether jet cleaning is sufficient or if a repair is needed.

Drain Repair Options

We offer a range of cost-effective blocked drain repair options including pipe re-lining. Pipe re-lining doesn’t involve any digging and returns a drain to better-than-new condition at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Signs of Blocked Drains

The most obvious sign of a drain problem is an unpleasant smell, another giveaway is when sinks or baths take longer than usual to drain. The water in toilets rises after flushing when there is a blockage.

  • If you suspect a blocked drain, first check the area to see if you can spot the cause. The most common reason is a build-up of debris such as silt, leaves, or waste, particularly around grates and guttering. Blockages near sink pipes are often caused by grease or fat trapping other material.
  • If nothing obvious is visible, the blockage may be deeper in the drainage system, so you may need to check manholes.
  • If you can see the blockage, you may be able to remove it yourself. If not, it’s best to call in a professional.
  • As a householder, you’re responsible for drains within your property boundary, but not for private sewers shared with another property owner or for the section of drain which lies outside of your property boundary.
  • If you live in rented accommodation and you have an issue with your drains, you should call your landlord, letting agent or housing association in the first instance.
  • If you’re unsure who is responsible for a problem drain, call your local water company who will be able to offer free advice.

There are steps you can build into everyday life to avoid a blocked outside drain. The main thing is to not put anything into your sinks, toilets, baths or showers which could cause a blockage. These include common items such as fat and oil, wet wipes and nappies, bandages, plasters and cotton buds. You should also try to keep pipes clear of hair by clearing it from showers regularly.
